scots_of_chicagoThe Scots of Chicago: Quiet Immigrants and their New Society

Published on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Illinois Saint Andrew Society, The Scots of Chicago: Quiet Immigrants and Their New Society by Wayne Rethford and June Skinner Sawyers offers an eye opening appraisal of the many contributions of Scots to the growth and development of Chicago and surrounding areas.  Scots have achieved much in their adopted land, yet rarely have they been recognized as members of an identifiable ethnic group, which has promoted historian Charlotte Erickson to refer to them as "invisible immigrants."  This book attempts to acknowledge those Scots who have influenced the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois and, by extension, the country itself. $25.00, includes shipping and handling.
